A new reading room asks what public architecture can offer a city.

The new reading room begins at street level, with doors that remain open to the neighbourhood. Visitors come to read, to study, or simply to be somewhere they can linger.
Inside, long tables share the light. The architects resisted the idea of a monumental entrance; the most important gesture is the invitation itself.
A good public building changes how a city imagines belonging. Here, it does so without asking anyone to explain why they came.
“The most important gesture is the invitation itself.”
